Private Sector
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, promotes sustainable private sector development in developing countries. The Legal Department of IFC (CLED), under the Vice President and General Counsel, is responsible for providing legal and policy advice to the IFC Board, its Management and client departments on operational, advisory and corporate matters. Specifically, CLED supports client departments in (i) the delivery of IFC's annual program of financing private sector projects in emerging markets; (ii) project portfolio management (including jeopardy projects and projects in litigation); (iii) the delivery and design of structured finance products, sub-national lending, equity and quasi-equity, public-private partnerships, and carbon finance transactions; (iv) advising on corporate policy and operational matters such as operating policies and procedures and Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Funding of Terrorism; and (v) knowledge management and training. In order to support IFC s growing activities in the area of equity transactions and funds, and given the increased focus on infrastructure as one IFC s strategic priorities, CLED is recruiting a senior legal specialist. The candidate will be initially based in Washington, DC and is expected to relocate to the IFC Operations Center in Istanbul within 24 months.

Duties and Accountabilities:
* Acting as global specialist in equity transactions, including private equity and investment funds, and providing structuring advice and support to business teams handling equity projects;
* Assuming primary lawyer responsibility for new and portfolio projects, and providing advice and support to business teams handling infrastructure projects (with a special focus on power projects);
* Interacting and communicating with CLED and business colleagues in the regions with particular focus on EMENA to facilitate the flow of knowledge to and from such regions;
* Obtaining and expanding knowledge, experience and best practices pertaining to the areas above and effectively sharing this knowledge

Selection Criteria:
* Qualified to practice law in one or more jurisdictions
* At least 15 years of relevant experience in a full-service international law firm and/or international financial institution, handling international transactions in the areas described above;
* Ability to handle independently complex transactions and to marshal the resources needed to deliver outcomes;
* Willingness to assume multiple roles and tasks to meet changing business needs with an ability to foresee, troubleshoot and effectively resolve conflicting issues and challenges;
* Ability to assess risk in a practical and responsible manner and make fair, well-reasoned, independent and transparent decisions;
* Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deal with sensitivity in a multicultural environment and to build effective working relations with clients and colleagues;
* Excellent communications skills in English are a must; fluency in French and/or Spanish desirable;
* Able to work in a fast-pace environment with quick turnaround expectations;
